How to download and extract ZIP files on Vista
All files must be unpacked before you can start using them.
Although, Vista automatically opens a folder with graphics after
a ZIP file has finished downloading, graphics are not unpacked.
Any file you open from such folder is smaller in size, blurry,
and sometimes cannot be opened.
If you take a look at a sample below, you'll notice that
all files in an unpacked folder (green frame) are much smaller
than actual size (red frame).
All files must be unpacked before you can start using them.
Here's how to open ZIP Files using Vista.
STEP 1
First, click on a "download link" to download a ZIP file to your computer.
This opens a new window "File Download".
- Click the "OPEN" button.
STEP 3
- When this download has finished downloading, click the OPEN button.

Now you should see a folder with printables, don't use any of
the files you see here because they are still in the ZIP file.
- In the window that opens, click Extract All Files.
- Select the folder where you wish to place the files and click "Extract"
Create a new folder, or use an existing one.
In my case, I saved images to a happynewyearebook.
Make a note of where the images will be saved to so you can find them later.
Files will now be unpacked and ready to use.
Once you have extracted files, you can delete zip files.
They are in the Downloads folder.
Extracted files are in the Documents folder.
